Is it dangerous to bring a 1000 Watt appliance to my 700 Watt max dorm?
My college says that only appliances under 700 Watts can be used in our dorm. I want to know if it would be dangerous to bring and use a 1000 Watt hot pot (to boil water) in my room. Not sure if it could set a fire or be dangerous or if would be okay. I would plug it into my power strip, which I only use about 3 plugs out of the 6 at a time. Thank you!
Yes, it's dangerous and for a good reason. If you use more than what is required, you can overheat the electrical wires in the walls and structure and start a fire. So just follow the rules and stay in compliance for the sake of every ones safety including your own.
