Finding the Right Kitchen Flooring
It can be tricky to find the right flooring for your kitchen. You need flooring that will hold up to high traffic and be comfortable but also will be water and stain resistant. A kitchen floor should not be high maintenance and should be able to handle all the traffic, spills and more that happen. You just cannot avoid spills and stains when you are cooking in your kitchen. If you put a flooring material that is meant to handle traffic, water resistant and stain resistant you’ll save yourself a lot of time, money and effort.
A lot of people love wood flooring in their kitchens. Wood flooring is very attractive but it is easily damaged by moisture and can be hard to maintain in a kitchen. If wood floors are exposed to moisture over a period of a few years they are likely to crack and warp. Moisture can cause wood to become cupped and or crowned and make the flooring uneven. This can be expensive to repair because you have to sand and smooth the affected area or replace the entire floor. Both options take a lot of time and can be costly. If wood flooring is installed properly and is well maintained, it can be somewhat resistant to moisture but it is not as resistant as other flooring materials.
Slate and ceramic tile are better choices for kitchen floors because they are very moisture resistant and will not warp or crack from moisture exposure. They are solid materials so they do not expand and contract over time. You can get slate and ceramic in any color or pattern so it will be easy to match your decor. Another benefit of slate and ceramic tile is that they are slip resistant so they are very safe for kitchens. Hardwood flooring, on the other hand, can be slippery when it gets wet. If you choose slate make sure you get a low gloss and slip resistant product.
Laminate floors are another option for your kitchen floors. Laminate floors are reasonably priced and can be found in wood like patterns that replicate the look of hardwood floors. The benefits of laminate floors are that they are easily installed, slip resistant and require little maintenance. Laminate flooring holds up well to the heavy foot traffic that is usually present in a kitchen. Kitchen floors should be strong and durable because they are put through a lot of stress. Do you research and find flooring that will be attractive, hold up well and be easy to maintain.
